Mayer is a line of vintage-inspired dresses created by Jenny Galluzzo in 2008. The line is named after Jenny's ultra-chic grandmother who gave her a collection of vintage caftans she purchased in the 1970's during her travels around the world. Jenny conceived the line with her own needs and those of her contemporaries in mind. Her vision was to create price and age-appropriate dresses that will make women will feel feminine, glamorous and sophisticated. Inspiration for Mayer comes from eternally stylish globetrotting women such as Jane Birkin, Diane von Furstenberg, Lee Radziwill and Jade Jagger.
A New York City based freelance television and print journalist, Jenny had no formal design training when she decided to launch Mayer, so she combed the Garment District and called upon friends in the fashion business to source fabric, pattern-makers and factories. After making her first dress, the overwhelming enthusiasm from friends and family convinced her to continue and expand into a capsule collection. She became an intern at Peter Som to learn about production and design while working on her own line.
The Mayer collection includes 3 dresses and 3 tops. The classic shapes are offered in a variety of silks in muted colors and subtle prints. Mayer dresses are perfect to wear day into night and do not wrinkle easily so they are perfect for a trip whether to Marrakech, Zanzibar or Montauk.
